Best Catfish anywhere

by adventurer2008

They have the best Catfish and Fried Dill Pickles. I had never tried fried dill pickles before they were great. The Catfish was seasoned perfectly. We enjoyed it so much that we ate there twice while we were there. The music and the service were also great.

Best Musicians especially Stacy Mitchhart, he is fantastic, fantastic ribs and pickles, great customer service, you won't want to miss going to Beale Street and not going to BB King's

by BarbaraBabsPrater

The last time I was there I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the music. It is a great place and the music could be heard no matter where you are seated. I did not care for the cole slaw. Youu need to talk with me when I get there, which is the next time Stacy Mitchhart is there hopefully. My husband and I owned a barbecue restaurant and undoubledly have the best barbecue sauce in the nation, but yours is great. I love the sides you have, including the pickles. I also have a receipe for deep fried sweet potato rounds that I am sure you would love to have, as well as several unusual desserts. If interested look me up. Stacy played at our restaurant last year and he was accepted very well. Boby's Boogie Pig Bar B Q in Blountville, TN, We have now closed and are looking for a larger place. I make the best cole slaw you will have ever eaten and it compliments the ribs expertly. I do plan on coming the end of this month if Stacy is going to be there and when is BB going to be there I would love to see him and Stacy perform. I have recently moved to the Memphis area and very excited that I can now visit quite often. If interested in trying out some of my receipts that will compliment your fantastic foods just let me know.

Great Entertainment- loved it!

by tinastravels

This was my first visit to Memphis and I spent several nights on Beale Street! I was hooked the minute we got there. Great entertainment and good times with friendly people everywhere. BB Kings place was really rockin the night I went in with a group of friends. Ruby Wilson is fantastic and gave an unforgettable performance! It was very crowded and of course, tourist priced with just okay food. However, I got what I came for, great music and a rockin atmosphere! We had a blast and would highly recommend going if you visit Beale street. We are already talking about when we can go back to Memphis. BB Kings is most definately on the list of places we will go back to! (Along with Graceland, National Civil Rights Museum, and the list goes on- Memphis overall is spectacular!)

  • Pros: Musical venue is worth the visit.
  • Cons: Tourist prices and heavy crowds on the weekends.

Great music - below average food

by crystalemily

Went to BB King's while visiting Memphis on a Saturday evening with a large group (14 ppl). They made room for us right away...or so we thought. There was room for 10 of us - the other 4 tried to squeeze in on corners. Music was great - we saw Preston Shannon and the house band kept us entertained. I loved the atmosphere! Service was quite good for serving 14 people. However, my catfish sandwich was horrible. I returned it (which I rarely do) and ordered a burger. My burger never came. When our waiter brought our checks, he said the burger would be up soon - much too late if we're already leaving. So, I didn't eat that evening. The least they could have done was comped my Coke, but I had to pay for that with 19% gratuity. I'd return again only for the music.

  • Pros: music, no wait
  • Cons: food, space, service

Great music plus good food equals an authentic Memphis experience in the palace of this blues king.

by Contributor

The Scene
King, who got his start on Beale Street, opened his namesake club in 1991. Though tourists flock here seeking the definitive Memphis blues experience, plenty of locals frequent the club to hear their favorite acts. A dance floor lets folks swing and sway, working up an appetite for the Southern fare cooked up in the club's restaurant.

The Draw
The big man himself plays the club a couple of times a year. The rest of the time, first-rate blues acts pack the place on a nightly basis. House favorites like Ruby Wilson and Preston Shannon usually man the stage on weekdays, while larger national acts play weekends. On weekends there are two bars--one inside, one out on the blocked-off Beale Street--where you can order your cocktail, beer or shooter.

Make sure you check out Ruby Wilson, Preston Shannon and definitely Larry Springfield, they all rock. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights are definitely the best nights to attend. Good, mixed crowd, not usually too rowdy, good mix of locals and tourists. The house band is excellent as well, Myron, drummer, Jackie, guitarist, Norris, pianist, they all rock! Can sometimes catch guest musicians when they perform at the Forum, they stop by and have a blast!

  • Pros: Good crowd, All ages included, Good drinks
  • Cons: Bad parking

Disappointed

by SANDRAMB

I was disappointed with this place. I expected better. This is not my idea of a blues club. When I was there in July 2002, the band that was playing was a rock band not a blues band. I can recall describing it as a tourist trap. The menu is not that good and we left early. I would recommend Isaac Hayes' place because of its better food and ambiance.

  • Pros: location
  • Cons: touristy

memphian

by tootallmemphis

bb kings voted for the 2nd best venue to see live music in the overall catagory, i proud to be a memphian... then i started to think about the talent that plays at the local club; besides B. B. KING??? i love memphis and i think we have some of the best undiscovered local musical talents in the world but, i think the venue should use this "opportunity" to take it to the next level. it's the same old; "mustang sally", that is played in every other blues club on Beale Street and I know B. B. King and all the other Lengends out there know that there is more to it than that. please don't get me wrong! i love the place and the street and more so, the city but, come on, it's time to give the music fans a little more respect. THEY DESERVE IT!

  • Pros: location, atmosphere, b.b.king
  • Cons: prices, music lengends

BB King's rocks....and souls!!

by fluffany

BB King's is a truly fabulous nightclub!! You can't go wrong on Beale Street, but make sure to include this happenin' place for a rock 'n soul experience!! Ruby Wilson is a one-of-a kind lady - She is a crowd pleaser with great style, pizazz and presence!! I was there last fall and was impressed with the young men performing gymnastics during a break (they had just signed a contact with Nike)!!! So, be sure to check out BB King's for a unforgettably good time!

  • Pros: Awesome entertainment, Great food, Reasonably priced
  • Cons: Crowded
