They closed due to an owners illness and the economy!

I went to Nick and Rudy's the other night with some friends. I had been there before and it was good, but this time it was great. The food was good and the service I got was perfect. My server was a cute guy with longer dark hair. When we needed something he was on it with a smile. I wish I could remember his name. I would request him! My only bad comment is that the music can be to loud.

Went to N&R's with friends and were so disappointed. The server was very neglectful, overcharged us on two items, and brought us cold mashed potatoes. We get better steaks at the Outback. Completely forgot our wine, and we had to remind him. We will not refer N&R's to anyone and will not return. We wrote several emails to them, they did not even answer.

Pros: piano music

Cons: service, and food

My husband recently took me here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. First of all, some have mentioned in other reviews that one of the owners "met you as came in, etc.", well no one met us. Our service was not very good at all. We had to continuously remind the waiter to bring us bring bread, butter, sweeter -- just about everything we needed, and it was not because the waiter was so busy -- he was not. We ordered appetizers and the waiter brought the wrong appetizer to our table. When our entree finally arrived, I was very disappointed. My husband ordered steak, medium-well - it arrived at our table, rare, and it was just so-so at best. I ordered the salmon, which came with rice. They were both so bland that I couldn't eat it. The fish and the rice tasted like the chef just threw them in the microwave and put it on a plate. I got a to-go box and I ended up throwing it away later, which is pretty sad considering the exorbitant price for the food. It was a very disappointing meal. We could have gotten better food at the Longhorn Steakhouse!

Pros: None

Cons: over-priced bland food, bad service, loud bar area

My wife and I also went there for Valentine's Day. The atmosphere was ok, but nothing special. Instead of a quiet romantic dinner, we had to listen to a bunch of loud-mouths sitting right behind us. Of course, that's not the restaraunt's fault, but it did add to the less than desireable experience. The food was greatly overpriced for what we recieved. They were even out of the salad that was supposed to be served. The service was adequate, but not deserving of the prices. We will not be going there again. I'm not sure how they received the "best of citysearch" award. Perhaps, Nick and Rudy bribed Citysearch. With the money they charge for their food items, they could surely afford it.

Pros: once tried, you won't waste your money there again.

Cons: prices, service

My wife and I went there for Valentines day and did not realize that they had a pre set menu. When I made the reservation they did not mention that. When we get there we had to wait almost an hour to get seated even though we had a 9:00 reservation. When we get seated they take our order right away. I felt like we were at some sort of rehearsal dinner or something. They charged a whopping $65 a person for the pre set menu which was not that impressive. Salad, soup, meal, and dessert. Our final bill was $167 and all we had was water to drink. The wait staff was totally apathetic, they bused our table like we were at Applebees or something. Anyway, it was a complete ripoff and a very disappointing night.

Pros: none

Cons: completely overpriced, bad wait staff, noisy

First visit to restaurant with group of friends. Such a pretty place with lots of atmosphere, but was so very pricy. Part of meal was good, not great, but good. Prime rib was not cooked as I ordered and was so fat that about every bite was a mouth full of practically raw fat meat, you know still firm, cool , white fat. Just awful. I can appreciate marbled meat, but I'm talking about about an inch of fat. I asked if this was indeed cooked as ordered and was told that it was perhaps slightly under med. well as I had ordered it, even though the red juices covered my white potatoes and there was not much sign of doneness. I have had prime rib may times but I think this was the worst I can remember ever being served. There was no real effort to correct the meal in any way. This was really disappointing to me. If any concern had been shown, it would have been nice. after all maybe the kitchen was just having an off night or there was a reason, but we did not get it, only that it was almost cooked right. I asked for a to go box. . When I opened it at home, I was shocked at the amount of fat I saw, unreal. I do realize the Prime Rib is a fatty cut of meat, but, in my case, it was for the most part what my steak consisted of, FAT! I really could not eat the meat. My dog did enjoy it regardless. If indeed I decide to give it another go, I will not order the prime rib, maybe fish or chicken. As earlier stated, I did enjoy part of the meal and the beauty of the restaurant, just not the steak. Pay attention to your guest so they will return. Considering the prices at this restaurant, the meal should be "excellent", the meats the best, and the service unmatchable.

Pros: Very pretty/great atmosphere

Cons: food

Nick and Rudy's has recently become my favorite "Dining Edifice". "Restaurant" does not quite sum up the experience you can have here. Located on Broadway in Midtown Nashville, this steakhouse is extremely warm and inclusive. The bar area greets you as you enter and the dining room is so exquisitely decorated that you feel like you are walking into a classic photograph. One of the two owners greets you (Nick in my case) and even offers conversation as you are comfortably embedded into your table. My NY Strip was $29 and although this can be considered "pricey" I do not feel that it was at all overpriced, considering the service, accomodations and quality. The Bernnaise Sauce made the steak good, but the chef made it amazing. I am really pleased with the quality of this location and recommend it proudly. I have had my favorites in Nashville from F.Scott's to Stoney River, but I never thought that the two could be challenged both on their own strongest assets. Steak and setting.

Pros: NY Strip, Dessert A-la-carte, Service, ambiance (Musician and setting) and energy

Cons: Very crowded parking, awkward location, side entrance only

My wife and I had our 28th wedding anniversary dinner at Nick and Rudy's last night and we had a wonderful time. The service was prompt and friendly, the food was very good (a bit over priced for value), and the atmosphere was fun. We also stayed for dancing and had a marvelous time. The piano player/singer was great and he played nice dancing music. The dance floor is a bit small which limits what dances you can do and you have to take smaller steps but it was friendly and fun. We had a GREAT time and will certainly go back.

Pros: Good food, good service and good dancing - valet parking was nice too.

Cons: Food prices a bit high to value, small dance floor

Editor's Review

Old-school ambience and big, juicy steaks add up to a fabulously retro meal.  See the full editorial review.
