The Gateway to the Mid-south
by explosivered
This arena was once home to the Memphis Tigers and NBA Memphis Grizzlies. It was also host to the Rumble on the River (2002), Memphis' first prime time boxing event. It has a rather short but sweet history. Where does it go from here?
- Pros: It is a spectacle
- Cons: It's future is in doubt
The city's architectural nod to ancient Egypt is as spectacular as the concerts and sporting events it hosts.

The Venue
Although Memphis' Pyramid is not quite on par with the architectural marvels of Egypt, this local landmark nevertheless makes an imposing impression on the city skyline. The all-purpose, 32-story shimmering steel arena, built at a cost of $65 million, was a controversial project when it opened in 1991.
The Experience
The Pyramid serves as the home court for the University of Memphis men's basketball. It's also hosted the SEC basketball tournament, as well as NCAA tournament action. As renovations to improve its acoustics have been made, the venue has played host to hundreds of touring acts, including the Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam and 'N Sync, featuring Memphis-born heartthrob Justin Timberlake.
