Editorial Review for Pig-N-Whistle – by Michelle Jones

The Scene
Pictures, models, diagrams, posters, and airmen uniforms dedicated to World War II aviation adorn several walls, with particular attention paid to the Memphis Belle.

The Food
The approach to ribs is laid-back. The proprietors don't claim to be true followers of the dry rub school of ribs. Instead, they give the option of wet (saucy), dry (dusted with a dry rub) or muddy (lots of sauce, topped by the dry rub). All of the ribs are hickory smoked and tender beyond belief. The beans, slaw and fries are average. In addition to the ribs, the Idaho Pig is an incredible creation that stuffs a huge baked potato with chopped pork shoulder, barbecue sauce, and melted Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese. If you must have ribs, order miniature Idaho Piglets as an appetizer.

The store on Winchester has closed; I believe they have moved east. In my years of visiting the Pig, the dine-in experience was great, but the carry out service was poor the once or twice I tried-- though not quite as bad as the experience in the previous review. (They got the order wrong twice.)

Pros: good dine-in service, excellent pulled pork BBQ and BBQ ribs, party room, buffet

Cons: poor carry out service, dry ribs sometimes overcooked, local retro-kitsch decor with TVs in corners

I ordered food on the drive-thru. THE WORKER ON THE DRIVE-THRU PUT A PAPER CLIP IN MY LEMONADE!!! I didn't see the paper clip until the next morning when I was about to use the cup on my way to work. The ice had melted. I always open the top on my beverages when I get them. I didn't see it then, so that lets me know it was deliberate. EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! The barbeque and the fries were cold. I called the general manager (Hosea Smith) to complain, and he refused to believe me and offered to give my money back. He didn't care who the employee was or if I got sick from it. BE WARNED - - AVOID THIS RESTAURANT!!!

Cons: Poor Service
