The best food ever!. I have lived in Memphis all my llife and this is one of my all time favorite restaurants. Its a tiny little restaurant /mom and pop, but THE FOOD IS OUT OF THIS WORLD! Be warned ahead of time......dont try to run in on your way to a movie or other timed destination.....Mr. Joe cannot be rushed creating your dinner and you wont be disappointed. Lotus is for a night when you want to kick back and enjoy leisurely dining while sipping a bottle of Vietnamese beer or your BYOB of favorite wine, which he will uncork and chill for you. Our fav is egg foo young and lo mein, but we haven't ever ordered anything that is not delicious!!!....and Mr. Joe, the owner is a charmer!.....he will tell you tales of Vietnam or talk to you about his recipes.....at our last visit our table chatted with him about hot peppers (and I mean HOT!) that he grows himself! Once youve been once and met Joe, you will put this restaurant on your list of favs!! Dont miss out on this great dining experience!!
Best oriental in Memphis!. This is by far the best oriental food in Memphis. I have lived here my whole life and love oriental food and they have the best. The Lotus Beef is incredible! I also love their egg rolls because they are not like all of the chinese food restraunt's frozen ones. Atmosphere doesnt make it the best place to take a date though. If you call in a take out and they say it will be ready in 15 minutes, get there in 30. I promise it is worth the wait!
Best home cooking you never had!. When you first spot this tiny restaurant you think it might be out of business, but trust me it's not! Nestled near a huge oak tree on Summer Ave it looks like any other small fast food restaurant but when you step in it's like you have been transported to a quiet tropical bar some where. The decor is citchy beach but the food is unsurpassed. It is true you will end up sitting for a while as you wait for your meal but it is more like visiting an old friend house unannounced and having them cook for you. The prises are extremely reasonable and the portions are large! The restaurant is run by a little old vietnamese man and his family. He is extremely nice and talkative when he isn't in the kitchen cooking. Trust me you won't regret a visit to this wonderful hidden gem.
Whether you dine in or carry out, visit this tiny spot for unsurpassed Vietnamese-Asian cuisine..
The Scene
This tiny, one-room ethnic restaurant is not much to look at on the outside, and inside, the small space boasts a few lone tables, some bamboo decorations and a take-out counter. However, looks aren't necessarily the indication of a good restaurant and Lotus has many rewards for the intrepid diner.
The Food
The spring rolls are refreshingly crisp and packed with oodles of crunchy vegetables. Lemon-grass chicken or shrimp is succulent and flavorful and surprisingly spicy--wait for it to kick in after the first few bites. For something special order the whole boneless duck, a Lotus signature dish. For more familiar fare, try the tasty sesame chicken and a side order of sticky white rice.
