Not what it's cracked up to be.. My wife and I tried this famous Memphis italian restaurant for dinner and left disappointed. After we were seated, we didn't see a waiter for 10 minutes. Our waiter seemed slow, unmotivated and unknowledgeable about the menu. It should be noted that no fresh bread is served at the table - instead we were given these cheap crunchy breadsticks in a package. We had the oysters rockefeller for an appetizer - the oysters were very small and hidden under a heaping amount of topping. Our main courses arrived promptly, but were unappealing. The veal picatta was average but the sauce was overpowered with lemon. My wife had the eggplant which was average as well. The marinara sauce that covered the pasta was our biggest complaint. It was watery and chunky with an overbearing presence of green peppers - not what I would consider marinara. In the end, we payed $75 for a below average italian dinner with lackluster service. The atmosphere is nice, but we won't be back.
In this city, Grisanti means Italian. Fresh, authentic Italian cuisine, lovingly prepared, is the hallmark here..
The Scene
A gurgling stream winds through the leafy indoor courtyard at the Embassy Suites Hotel, home of Grisanti's. Make your way into the dining room, decorated with mahogany wood, framed landscapes, soft lighting and plentiful bottles of wine, for a taste of Italy, Memphis-style.
The Food
Whether it's manicotti or lasagna, toasted ravioli or penne pasta with chicken, the food here is authentic and lovingly prepared. The baked manicotti is a mouthwatering classic. Entrees come with hot loaves of bread and the choice of a garden or vinaigrette-tossed Miss Mary salad. Complete the meal with traditional tiramisu, cheesecake or Italian gelato.
