What a joke!. We're foodies and love to try new BBQ places all over the nation. We were looking forward to trying Neely's in Nashville and Memphis. We should have stayed home. Food, service, and atmosphere were bottom of the barrel. Absolutely horrible. I would give it zero stars if I could. Both places were exactly the same- worst BBQ we've ever eaten. We even wrote them a letter and expected even an auto response but got no response. That sums you their attitude towards their guests. I guess they are too busy with their show to worry about minor things like the food and service. Try Rendevzous in Memphis or Jack's in Nashville.

Not as good as it is made out to be.. The food was good, but not excellent. For a restaurant that is suppose famous like this I expected better.

The meats were tender and juicy, but tasted like it was cooked over a regular grill very quickly (which anybody can do at home) with no special wood to give it a good smoked flavor. The sauce and the sides were good, but not fantastic. They are not big on customer service. Our server didnt bring us all our food and never came back to check up on us. The restaurant was a dump. The tables wobbled and the chairs were torn.



If you never had any other types of BBQ to compare it to you might find it excellent. I would recommend eating here, but not rate it as excellent. I would also tell others not to expect fine dining or a nice place to go on a special occasion.

There's nothing fancy about it, but for bona fide Memphis barbecue served in a soulful setting, Neely's fits the bill.. The Scene:
There's not much to distinguish this neighborhood barbecue joint from the dozens of others that spew pit smoke across Memphis skies, but that's not to say Neely's isn't commendable. Neely's takes its meaty sandwiches slathered in smoky sauce and topped with coleslaw seriously. In addition to its downtown-area restaurant, Neely's has two additional locations: 5700 Mt. Moriah (795-4177); 2235 Covington Pike (388-3787). Neely's is also a popular local caterer.

If you order one thing:
The barbecue sandwich is a must
