Newby's / Memphis Rocks!. the bar has a 500 seat venue that has hunderds of national acts booked all year long. from artist's of the past; "THE CALL", "THE OUT FIELD", "MODERN ENGLISH", "QUIET RIOT", today's music; "CREED", "JOHN MEYER", "JASON MARAZ", "PAPA ROACH", NICKLE BACK", MEMPHIS' OWN "SALIVA", for jam bands; "STRING CHEESE", "MOE", "KELLER WILLIAMS", to blues founders / legends... ""RUFUS THOMAS", "R.L. BURNSIDE", "JUNIOR KIMBROUGH", "DEL MC CURY", "GILLIAN WELCH"... you name them they might of played here.

Tiki lights, billiards and mounted moose only add to the fun at this crowded college hangout, a favorite since 1975.. The Scene


An energetic, barely legal crowd packs the two rooms and patio of this U of M favorite.

Guys and gals on the prowl fill dimly lit coves while high-fives ring out where cue sticks hang. A tiki-like canopy, lights and all, stands tall over a well-stocked bar. From the front patio, you can watch the hustle and bustle of Highland Avenue. Nights start slow but get packed well into the wee hours.



The Booze


Young crowd? Think shooters. The Easy is most famous--Stohli's-orange and cranberry juice makes for easy drinking. Most beers are on hand for everyone else.



While You're There


Live music and billiards are the draw. Pac-Man still holds things down in a small, quasi-arcade. Cheap pub grub, including a damn tasty marinated chicken sandwich, is served every night until 2:30am.

THE BEST PLACE ON EARTH. If you have ever been to Newbys, you know the drinks are all flowing and Chef Willie is always cookin! Thier bartenders and waitresses are bad ass! And so is thier chicken sandwich...don't let me forget the NOT WING PIZZA! There are always people ready to party....And if you have not had the Rock Star.....Porn Star...or All Star...you have not ever really drank.ANd on sundays, Free karake and pool and darts...i wish the video crack machines were free too, but i doubt that will ever happen....Over all, that bar rocks...and the owner...TOO TALL TODD...he is hot....

The College Bar You Never Out Grow!. Nested in the High Strip, the Big University of Memphis Hangout. Newby's is a Memphis tradition. It always has great food,excellent drinks, and live music.***A definite Best of Best***Check it Out

Kicks Ass. Newby's is the classic bar. Old brick, red vinal booths, moosehead, 4 pool tables, huge patio, strong ass drinks, classic arcade games, 14 TVs, and killer music. It's the bar that has been ever changing since the 70's, yet really has never changed. Sure there's always a new young crowd every year, but you'll still run into the same regulars that have been coming for the past 15 years. The bartenders know everyones names and some have been there for 15 years...and of course we can't talk about Newby's without mentioning Chef Willie. Everybody knows him and he knows the clientel better than anyone. This place is a classic!
