This welcoming diner at the edge of south Memphis may be a bit off the beaten path, but it's definitely worth seeking out. The place is small, with only a few tables and chairs lined up from the front counter to the creaking front door, but it's satisfying for both the mind and taste buds. Daily specials use only the freshest seasonal produce.



The Food
Ham hocks. Black-eyed peas. Golden-baked macaroni and cheese. Fried catfish. Soul food is done right at Ellen's. The meatloaf is dense and meaty, just like mom used to make it. For a true taste of the South, try some crsipy fried chicken and buttery mustard greens. Crumbly cornbread, chilled lemonade and perfect rice go well with any entree.
