"The Deli". I love this place! They have THE best fries in Memphis, great sandwiches, and an awesome beer selection. Be sure to get a beer card and get it stamped- every ten drafts- and you get a free t-shirt. I don't recommend coming here for lunch if you only have an hour, because the service can be really slow when its busy.
Nightlife maybe, but dinner dud.. I guess I could see that some people would come here for the atmosphere, but there aren't many other reasons to come to this place. The atmosphere in my opinion is dark, murky, and on the night I was there freezing. It had roughly the same ambiance of a cave with pool tables and a bar. The service, which I hear is notoriously slow, was exactly that. There wasn't anybody in the place yet it took forever for the waitress to tear herself away from her conversation to take our order. When she finally did take our order it didn't take to long for the food itself to come out. I ordered the Hot Roast Beef, with sweet potato fries. I understand that when you order something with Jalapenos on it that they have a strong flavor and can drown out other more subtle flavors. This sandwich tasted like it had been soaked in Jalapeno juice. The sandwich had a substantial amount of onions on it, you would think you could at least taste that, but nope it tasted like jalapeno on tasteless bread. The beef looked like good quality meat, there was just no tasting it. The sweet potato fries were good, but there are actually better ones served in Memphis as these were extremely greasy. Unless you are going specifically to see a band that you like there I would avoid this place and eat at one of the many other fine eateries in the area. If you are going to drink then this place is fine as they have a pretty substantial list of good beers. Just avoid it as the place to go for a good dinner.
Your Favorite Place to be anytime you're in Memphis. No discrimination. There's a great variety of people. The staff make you feel welcome and are always happy to help you navigate the great menu and immense beer selection. Music is great, whether its playing on the house system on a Sunday afternoon or blasting live on a Friday night. This place is straight where I head when I get to town.
The Deli. The Deli is just a great place to hang out. Its midtown's hip version of the bar from St. Elmo's fire. Great food, lots of beer and the best place to see live music.
A bar/coffee house/performance art space that's as welcoming and inviting as an old friend's house..
The Scene:
The bookings may be irregular and sporadic, but look for some of the most unusual, cutting-edge musical acts, performance artists and poetry readings to be staged at this offbeat night spot. Located in the historic Cooper-Young district of Midtown, this popular hang-out has earned a reputation in recent years as a combination bar, coffee house, and cigar-smoking station, among other monikers. Inside, you'll find plenty of room to kick back and relax, or opt for pool tables and pinball machines as prime ways to wile away the time. The Young Avenue Deli has terrific food, too, including great sandwiches and brag-worthy French fries.
Must Have Drinks:
Take your choice of their wide selection of imported beers.
yummy food too. don't get dressed up or anything. good variety of beer that includes abita purple haze. good live music, good juke box. pool tables.
Sports bar?????????. A sports bar it's not. Fruity mix of a lot different " activities " it is. A clientel of ex 60's hipsters and new eccentrics of midtown is the norm. Food is good and atmosphere is laid back.
EveryonesWelcome. Tatooes to business suits everyones welcome at The Deli. Great food , good value, awesome beer selection. Award winning food, billiards, beer selection, smokeshop and BEST music in Memphis and Mid-South.
