Editorial Review for Mud Island River Park – by Michele McCole Moss

The Appeal
Like a topographic map you can stroll through, this park's scale model is a miniature of the waters and lands of the great Mississippi River. This Mississippi microcosm appeals to the young and old, tourists and locals.

Features
The Mississippi River museum covers 10,000 years of river history. Five galleries chronicle the role the Mississippi played in the Civil War. One of the largest exhibits focuses on the music of the Mississippi from the blues to early Elvis. The Memphis Belle, a famous B-17 flown in World War II, is on display and accompanied by a documentary. A 5,000-seat outdoor amphitheater hosts a number of top acts each summer. Gift shops offer a variety of trinkets. Concession areas give visitors a chance to sit down and grab a bite.

This place has been pretty non-existant for at least 3 yrs. How can it even be in the top 10? There is nothing there to see!!

Wear sandles and take your kids for a couple hours of education and fun. I recommend the museum tour as well. If you were raised anywhere near the mighty Mississippi or other large rivers you will enjoy this attraction. Use your sandles to splash along the way.

Pros: monorail ride, water fun, memphis belle

Cons: not much shade, need live music, a bit dated
