Sam Phillips made history here with the help of an unknown boy from Tupelo, Mississippi..
The Background
From the gold seal on the outside to the age-old instruments in the studio, not much has changed in this classic brick building on Union Street. And just like any good antique, you can virtually smell the history seeping from the cracks. Carl Perkins, Jerry the Killer and the King himself stare from photos on the walls.
The Experience
There's no stopping the goose bumps while you stand around Elvis' microphone and Johnny Cash's dollar-strung guitar and listen to candid, master recordings of early blues and rock greats. Had that young looker from Tupelo not walked in to record a song for his mother, the world might not have rock and roll today. Back then, four bucks cut any old hound a record; today, $30 can score you a personal Sun track. Not musically inclined? Take the 30-minute guided tour--it's short but packed with juicy info.
