This endearingly run-down concert venue packs 'em in..
The Scene:
Bob Dylan recorded a video for his Grammy-winning "Time Out of Mind" CD at the New Daisy, which is about the most flattering compliment a musician can pay to a concert hall. The marquee and sidewalk ticket office recall its past life as a movie theatre, but don't call that the New Daisy's heyday. With alternative, cutting-edge acts and the world's great jazz, blues and country artists popping in to perform on a regular basis, the place sees as many crowds as it probably ever did. Inside it's a big, junky room thick with the haze of cigarette smoke and the smell of spilt beer. In other words, perfect for the occasional boxing match that augments the steady stream of musical acts who book the New Daisy. Rickety stairways lead to the cheap seats in the balcony. But this isn't a nosebleed section; the views are better here than on the jam-packed floor below.
Must-Have Drinks:
Grab a Bud and head for the balcony.
