Editorial Review for Arcade Restaurant – by Linda Romine
The Scene
With its glowing neon sign and prime location in the South Main Historic District alongside the trolley line, the Arcade has weathered the ups and downs of a fickle restaurant-going public. If you're not going to eat, at the very least, stop by for a cup of coffee and soak up Arcade's atmosphere, which has remained intact for more than 80 years.
The Food
Loyal fans know that Arcade serves one of the best home-style breakfasts around and that plate lunch specials are simple but satisfying. While a spin around Arcade is a trip back in time, its cuisine isn't entirely outdated; the latest owners have had success with pizzas such as the luscious version that melds goat cheese with crisp walnuts.
Dish to Die For
Try one of the plate lunch specials.

I haven't had breakfast at the Arcade (I don't get up that early), but I live Downtown, so I've been there for lunch, and I HIGHLY recommend the hamburger/cheeseburger there. Toasted bun, at least a half-pound of good ground beef (not a frozen "patty", and it comes with your choice of sides. I was not expecting a burger that size the first time I ordered one, but you will NOT regret eating here. VERY, very friendly people, and great "retro" ambience. This place is worth the trip. (And you will NOT leave hungry - they'll see to that) !
Pros: Oh, that burger !
Cons: None whatsoever

I have only had Breakfast there but it was perfect. I kept wanting to try what I saw on other tables. Sweet Potato Pancakes and some Egg Casserole. Both look delicious. I'm going back. The Atmosphere hasn't changed since the fifties. The staff is young and friendly. I understand that every film produced in Memphis uses this Restaurant for, at least, an exterior shot. As a photographer, I think this place is fascinating, full of nostalgia. The location is across from the Central Train Station and at one end of the Main Street Trolley Run. Try breakfast and come hungry.
