The Scene: – At the corner of Second and Beale, facing B.B. King's Blues Club, sits the faux Delta shack that was formerly a Doe's Eat Place. The late, great blues guitarist Albert King helped open the club in the early 1990s, but today it is the Blues City Cafe. Shrimp, steaks, and spicy tamales are on the menu, along with icy cold Coca-Cola and beer. Thick block glass windows, Formica fixtures and chrome furniture contribute to that sense of time and place. While you're noshing on greasy goodies, you can gaze out through the large picture-window views of Beale Street. A tiny,…
A Memphis Must

Excellent fall off the bone ribs in an interesting setting. My wife likes her ribs dry and she loved them as well. The sides are good, especially the beans. I'm not a cole slaw fan so was not impressed with the slaw. The chili was also excellent. The place has 2 dining areas and 2 bars, one with music. We ate in the bar with entertainment and loved it. I have been here at least 5 times over a period of time and it is always excellent.
- Pros: Best Ribs in Town
- Cons: Cole Slaw
Good food in the heart of Beale

This was our first stop when we rolled into Memphis in the middle of the night. We read that this was Bill Clinton's favorite place to eat in Memphis. We were greeted with a friendly, "Sit anywhere you want!" and were immediately happy with the authentic "dirty South" atmosphere. At first we were dismayed by the limited menu, but we came to discover over the weekend that this is common in Memphis -- places tend to do a few things very, very well, opting for quality over quantity. I ordered the chicken breast plate, which consisted of friend chicken strips with honey mustard and steak fries. It was absolutely delicious -- best honey mustard I've ever had. The beer selection was pretty good. Our waiter was wonderful, friendly but not overbearing. Best of all, we could watch the goings-on on Beale Street while we ate and drank. I liked this place -- felt like home.
- Pros: Food, service, atmosphere, location, price
- Cons: Limited menu

best barbecue with all the fixins ... this is a must stop if you're traveling through Memphis ... or staying on. With their long hours, me and the family always go for a memorable meal, whatever the time. Welcome is great -- good folks, too.
