Don't let the bad reviews scare you away

by sunshinechaser at Citysearch

I have been going to Pancho's for about 35 years and have been to every location. They always bring you cheese dip and salsa as soon as you sit down and keep you supplied for the duration. I like the "build your own lunch" and usually get the Mexican cheeseburger, tamales and an enchilada, along with the beans and rice. This is a HUGE platter of food for about $8. Factor in the free cheese dip and the price is pretty good. I love the little tamales and the brown gravy. In fact, I love it all. I think they have the best beans of any Mexican eatery. That said, I will agree that it is far from authentic Mexican. I go to Abuelos for one style, Panchos for their style and one of the MANY true Mexican operated joints because I like them all. My family actually chooses Panchos over the others and I place it as a tie with Aubelos, although an entirely different dining experience. Writing this review has me ready to go eat there now. Give it a chance.

No service

by dwayne 1169 at Citysearch

I heard great things about Pancho's. Then I went. I travel I-40 a lot

and when I stop at a Mexican restaurant I have never been, I like to have some chips and salsa and look over the menu.

NOT HERE YOU WON'T!! The waitress told me it was against their policy. I politely told her the customer was always right and she left the table. Then not one but two mangers came to the table to back her up. NO CHIPS FOR YOU TILL YOU ORDER! They were not bending so I left bewildered and appalled. So the food may be good, but do to their lack of customer appreciation I didn't even get to try a chip.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: Again no service

Worst Restaurant I have ever been too.

by dizfactor at Citysearch

I cannot figure out how in the world this place stays open. Especially given the amount of decent restaurants that surround it. There is nothing good about this place. There are multiple locations in Memphis, and they are all equally horrible. The chips are stale, generally tasting a bit like cardboard with a bit of salt added. The service is horrible, with a wait staff that generally knows just how horrible their restaurant is. The food is just terrible, with the dishes tasting something akin to a frozen enchilada tv dinner. The rice I think could be used to hold brick together. If you get the inkling to eat Mexican go to Taco Bell before you eat here, the quality of food is significantly better.

avoid the tamales

by terrenceelectra at Citysearch

The seating was quick and the service was good. The food portions were small and didn't taste very mexican. DO NOT ORDER the Tamales, they were the worse I've ever had.

  • Pros: service
  • Cons: food size and tamales

Not Authentic Mexican

by gourmet_aficionado at Citysearch

While the service was fine at Pancho's, the food is just not authentic Mexican. The salsa seemed to come from a jar and the cheese sauce has a similarity to Velveeta. We were disappointed in our tamales and quesadillas. The food is okay, but dont expect authenticity.

  • Pros: Convenient location, Good parking, Service
  • Cons: , Food, Velveeta like
