Good place to stay in downtown Memphis.
My wife and I go to Memphis every year for Thanksgiving to see her family. We have stayed at the Peabody and all the new Boutique hotels. The Holiday Inn Express represents a good value for the $ and is close to everything.
Make sure you get a room on the backside of the hotel. After Beale street closes, all the party animals walk past this hotel to get to their cars and they are not quiet. And this is at 2:30am.
Also, parking can be tough.. The garage is pretty small and expensive. Park in the City Lots if you don't mind the walk.

Good Hotel with great location!.
This was a dependable Holiday Inn hotel. It is what you expect. Location was great for walking to Beale Street. We had great service from front desk to wait staff for breakfast! Responsive to Priority Club members!

Don't Do the Package Deals!.
We booked the Graceland and the Rock and Soul Museum packages. We could have done these cheaper if we had booked them ourselves. Check the room rates though - that may change and it may be cheaper at different times. Also be aware that when the website says "Full Southern Breakfast" they actually mean a continental breakfast and you have to pay extra for the full southern. There was a lot of confusion about the nights we booked and we had to have our keys re-keyed each day. The rooms were very nice and the evening and night staff were wonderful. The reservations staff during the day was very friendly, as was the restuarant staff. The daytime front desk staff though needed some lessons in hospitality. Another hint - use the stairs! The elevators take too much time. All and all though its good for value and location
