Editorial Review for The Butcher Shop Steak House – by Linda Romine and Michele McCole Moss
The Scene
It's got the typical ambiance of any steak house -- dark wood and the savory aroma of sizzling meat in the air. The difference? You get to grill your own dinner over hickory briquettes on a pit barbecue. This interactive dining experience pulls in plenty of groups looking for something different, but the dining room grills are big, so you'll never have to wait to cook your steak.
The Food
Steak choices vary from eight to 24 ounces and include tenderloin, T-bone, ribeye, and New York and Kansas City strips. Don't care for red meat? The kitchen prepares chicken and salmon as well, but you won't have the fun of cooking your own dinner. A house salad, baked potato and Texas toast rounds out the meaty meals. If you've still got the room, get a slice of the housemade cheesecake for dessert.

Butcher Shop is one of those places that my mind doesnt automatically jump to when we're heading out for a steak. Usually its between Ruths Chris and Folks Folly (and Ruths Chris usually wins - they have better sides) But sometimes we're burnt out on RC and sometimes we just dont want to drive that far. Thats when the Butcher Shop usually pops into my head. The steaks are good...I have never prepared my own. Like some others have said - whats the point in that?!?! The spinach artichoke dip is, in my opinion, the best in the city. Even better than Houstons. Yup. The potatoes....the ones served with cheese in a gratin dish? Oh. My. Goodness. They are *so* good....skip the baked potato and try them! We go to the one on G-Town Pkwy and they have patio seating. Also another draw when the weather is nice and you want to sit outside!

Arrived and was quickly seated. Ordered beer and soft drink. Informed by surly manager that one grill was down and that no customer steak preparation on the other grill was possible. Left.
Pros: nice atmosphere, good location
Cons: surly management
