Great steaks!. Not sure why this restaurant is listed under West Memphis but in any case, I have very fond memories of this downtown restaurant--sorry to hear quality is not the same. They used to have great steaks at a very reasonable price I though. Fun place--service just so-so though.

Demonstrate your barbecue bravado to friends and family at this do-it-yourself eatery.. The Scene

It's got the typical ambiance of any steak house -- dark wood and the savory aroma of sizzling meat in the air. The difference? You get to grill your own dinner over hickory briquettes on a pit barbecue. This interactive dining experience pulls in plenty of groups looking for something different, but the dining room grills are big, so you'll never have to wait to cook your steak.

The Food

Steak choices vary from eight to 24 ounces and include tenderloin, T-bone, ribeye, and New York and Kansas City strips. Don't care for red meat? The kitchen prepares chicken and salmon as well, but you won't have the fun of cooking your own dinner. A house salad, baked potato and Texas toast rounds out the meaty meals. If you've still got the room, get a slice of the housemade cheesecake for dessert.

voluptuous. This is the type of do it yourself restaurant, with a touch of intimacy to make it romantic.

take your pick. 10-12 yrs ago, the downtown location was great...not so much anymore. the germantown/cordova location is the way to go, but it's still a gamble on whether or not the food will be that good.

Fun Exciting and Delicious. The Butcher Shop Steak House offers an environment that is comfortable for all, be it a high school prom night date or the setting for closing a business deal. They offer the opportunity to cook your own steak, which you get to pick out, so if there is a problem with your meat it is your own fault.

Classic American Steakhouse. The best steak house that I have found in Memphis! Though I must admit that I have not been to Folk's Folly, Memphis is lucky to have a restaurant of this caliber. There are not many others. Excellent steaks that they cook properly. You can select your own steak and cook it yourself if you choose. The salad was fresh, the ambience was that of a classic American steak house, in my opinion. We ate at the one on Germantown Road.

melts in your mouth. My boss and I were in Memphis for business and our partner, also a local resident, took us to the Butcher Shop Steak House for dinner. We both had the filet and there are no words to describe the piece of meat that we both enjoyed. If my car had no broken down during my honeymoon I would have taken my new bride here for dinner. I haven't stopped talking about my experience yet. This is a place worth dropping a few pennies at. I look forward to going back.

Butcher Shop Depends. It depends on which Butcher Shop you go to. The one in Cordova is great but the downtown one leaves much to be desired. The downtown one was the original one but it's gone way downhill. The one in cordova has a better menu, the food is cooked better, and it's a great atmosphere. It's also well priced. My review applies to the one in Cordova and not the one downtown.

Never Again!. I recently spent two of the worst restaurant hours of my life at the Butcher Shop downtown. The food was okay but much too expensive for what you get. The salad bar was sparse as well as being a server yourself situation. The steak was overcooked and underseasoned. (I chose not to cook my own.) But the worst part was the service. Never have I been so displeased with the service and then forced to leave a 17% gratuity anyway. Needless to say, Never Again!
