We had four family's stay at the Econolodge Downtown last weekend. The hotel, staff, price and location were all WONDERFUL. My husband and I travel at least twice a month and have stayed at alot of different hotels. I have to say this was the nicest one yet!!! If you are looking for a 4 star hotel, no this is not for you!!! However, it is TOP NOTCH for it's two star rating!! We will most definitley stay here again when in Memphis.
My best friend and I (two ladies) stayed because of its location to Beale Street. It's a short 4 blocks down and we felt safe the whole time. There is a chilis and Denny's right up the block (between hotel and Beale) so there are plenty of people around and never felt unsafe. The hotel check it was easy. They even let us see a room before we paid because we were unsure after some reviews. The elevators are fine and take you up to the top to your room. Our room was very nice and clean including the bathroom/shower.
Friendly check in, free parking pass, clean rooms good price Comfortable pillowtop mattress walking distance to Beale Street Was leery never in Memphis before exceeded my exceptions.
If I ever get to go back to Memphis
again, I will probably stay here. The money I didn't spend on the hotel room I was only in to sleep was better spent on museums, clubs and BBQ.
The room was clean, the staff were cheerful and helpful and it was a quick walk to everything. I am a middle-aged white woman travelling alone and I felt safe walking. It's like any other city - pay attention to your surroundings and if the building under construction bugs you, walk on the other side of the street.
I never had to wait terribly long for an elevator and sometimes I was packed in but that's just a chance to meet people and find out what's going on. The windows and walls are thin which wouldn't be a problem if everyone was there for the same thing but there were families and business travelers along with the tourists and if you happen to be next door to someone who has to get up at 6am, you are probably going to be woken up. Nothing to stop you from going back to sleep, though.
We were a bit apprehensive after reading some of the reviews but our stay was just fine. The location is good (5 min walk to Beal street), the staff were really friendly & helpful, the breakfast is fine and the rooms were comfortable and clean enough. It's dated and the building it's in isn't that nice but it was fine for us and perfect for our budget.
Great little downtown hotel. Best price for the area. Easy parking ($10 extra per day), fast elevators and nice enough at the front desk. Great place, even though its old, it still has charm. Exceptionally clean for downtown Memphis and a short little walk down to the Beale Street nightlife. Would recommend to anyone.
We stayed here for the weekend the hotel is in a good location you can walk to beale street and there was a few eating places down from the hotel and the hotel have a bbq place if u don't want to walk nowhere the hotel need a lil up grade but the room was clean and is a good price yes I will stay here again.
A well-known, mid-priced national and international hotel chain where kids always stay free..
