Hernando >Velvet Cream
If your order is right and your food is fresh then you are okay. BUT GOD forbid they get something wrong because they don't give a rats a**! They are rude and VERY unconcerned with customers who complain. My husband picked up food there a few weeks ago on a Friday night. They were busy and initially it took 45 minutes to get FOUR burgers. Then one was made wrong, they said they would remake it but basically we don't care if the rest of your food gets soggy and cold while you wait. He waited thinking it couldn't possibly take more than a few minutes to make ONE burger.....WRONG! It took THIRTY minutes! We live FIVE minutes away and by the time he got back everything was cold, including the burger they said they just made! The remade burger was so cold the cheese wasn't even melted and get this....it still was NOT made right! I logged onto my facebook and proceeded to tell them about the situation and instead of being an adult and addressing the issue they took my comment off their page and BLOCKED ME! REALLY? I wasn't rude, didn't use foul language, I just simply told them their food and service was lacking....which it was. I can promise you I will NOT ever eat there again and not because of the food, I mean you can get bad food anywhere at anytime. I won't go back because of their FOUL childish attitudes towards customers who complain about poor service or poor food. If you can't handle complaints then maybe, just maybe you shouldn't be in business plain and simple.
Service is Pathetic!! I went there tonight and they messed our order up. THEN when they remade the order it was wrong AGAIN. Then when asked to refund some of our money they wouldn't do it. We weren't the only ones tonight that had this happen to them. Then we posted on there facebook page our complaint and they BLOCKED us! So that no one would see what we posted. All in all I have to say they are RUDE and disrespectful of their customers and we will NOT be going back any time soon. I advice everyone to AVOID this place at all costs.
Worst Burger EVER!. I love one of a kind restaurants. I was told many wonder things about this place. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. I opened my burger and to my surprise, it was dry and hard around the edges. The middle of the burger felt cold. I called and was told that the cook had just made that burger. She further stated that the she watched the cook prepare the burger. (I work five minutes away from Velvet Cream) I called back and asked for the manager. He advised that he cooked the burger and it was fresh. I advised him that the burger tasted as if it was warmed from the day prior. He advised that they'd prepared those burgers the same way for sixty years. I reiterated that it was good & they should continue to prepare burgers in the same manner...since they've never received complaints. I paid $6.00 for a small burger and fries. I was very disappointed at the way it was handled. He only offered an apology. After speaking with a coworker, she advised that she had a fresh, juicy burger about two weeks ago. She said it sounded like it was warmed from a prior day.
unfulfilled. I traveled around 50 miles round trip to experience this place after hearing the report from Tom Dees on the news. What a dissapointment. My fiance and I ordered shakes. I thought this was a no brainer. Mine was a mocha frap concrete and his was choco malt. My order came back as reg vanilla shake that was thin enough to drink through a straw, mind you this was suppose to be REALLY thick. His was fine. I really looked forward to this and dont think I will be spending the extra gas for something that tastes the same or better. I think the way their system is on placing your order is lacking and makes the customers feel uncomfortable and awkward. I didnt have to fight through a crowd or anything there were only a handful of people there, but the experince was that.
Great Food, Great Shakes, But Service is Pathetic.
First, let's go ahead and get the good part out of the way. The food IS great, at least what I got was. The burger isn't the best I've ever eaten but it's pretty high on the list. The fries were good but not great.
If you want a really good burger it's a great place to go--but make sure you have a LOT of time before you go. It took 45 minutes for my food to get to me, including waiting for 15 minutes before I could even place my order because I had to wait for a grand total of about 2 different orders before mine. This isn't a place you can run through on your lunch hour, your lunch break will be over with before you ever see your food. I was beginning to wonder if they had to kill the cow and pick the potatoes for my dinner after I ordered, it took so long.
The place is staffed by teenage girls who have no earthly idea what they're doing when it comes to the drive-thru. On my only other visit I ordered a milkshake. Shouldn't be something you can screw up right? Well, they managed to find a way to screw the order up...not once...not twice...but THREE TIMES. And there was nothing special-ordered about it. That was at the drive-thru. One thing about the time I got the burger and fries, the order was right even though I special-ordered it.
Bottom line: if you have a LOT of free time and want a great burger, it's a good choice, but whatever you do, don't go through the drive-thru, and don't go if you're remotely close to have to be in a hurry unless you just want a milkshake. But remember, avoid the drive-thru at all costs. If you're looking for someplace faster, try Cracker Barrel (that alone should tell you something).
Best Ice Cream for Miles.
I've been going to the Velvet Cream - better known as 'The Dip' to the locals - for 22 years. Their ice cream is simply fantastic; it puts everything else in town, and even beyond, to shame.
But it's not just their ice cream that keeps me coming back. It's the unique taste of the hamburgers, the fries, everything that reminds me of my childhood. Velvet Cream's food is a throwback to the 1950s.
You're not going to go away hungry either. One order of fries will feed a person, but usually two will be required to finish it. Their smallest hamburger is a Quarter Pound. And the largest? Two Pounds!?! That's a challenge if I ever saw one.
Velvet Cream is one of those places that still has a southern charm and doesn't have the same attitude problem that many chain restaurants have. When their not too busy, they might just strike up a conversation with you. But alas, when the parking lot is full of other hungry people, they run around like bees inside.
In summary, this is a place that everyone needs to try at least once - but good luck with that. You'll find yourself coming back again and again!
BEST EVER!!!. I have been going there for a very long time. My grandmother use to take me for ice cream when I was little and staying with her during the summer. Now I take my own son for a "treat". I craved their spicy fries when I was pregnant because they are awesome!!! You can make a whole meal on just an order of fries. And their hamburgers are the best ever. I would rather eat here than any other fine dining resturant in town. The service is great also. Everyone has that "Southern personality". They are not a fast food place so they are not very fast but it is worth the little wait for the great food.
The Dip is the BEST. The best burgers in town. If you're looking for something different from "chain" restaurants, velvet cream is the place to be. Lots of variety.
The Dip!!!. The day we moved to Hernando (21 years ago), I went to "The Dip" to get hamburgers and fries for everyone that helped us move. I learned that day that an order of fries was enough for two people. Love to eat there often, great burgers, ice cream, you name it. It's a tradition at our home, now with our four boys.
Velvet Cream...mmm... Velvet Cream has the best ice cream,as well as the best Broccoli & cheese nuggets & the best pizza sticks
