unfulfilled

I traveled around 50 miles round trip to experience this place after hearing the report from Tom Dees on the news. What a dissapointment. My fiance and I ordered shakes. I thought this was a no brainer. Mine was a mocha frap concrete and his was choco malt. My order came back as reg vanilla shake that was thin enough to drink through a straw, mind you this was suppose to be REALLY thick. His was fine. I really looked forward to this and dont think I will be spending the extra gas for something that tastes the same or better. I think the way their system is on placing your order is lacking and makes the customers feel uncomfortable and awkward. I didnt have to fight through a crowd or anything there were only a handful of people there, but the experince was that.
Great Food, Great Shakes, But Service is Pathetic

First, let's go ahead and get the good part out of the way. The food IS great, at least what I got was. The burger isn't the best I've ever eaten but it's pretty high on the list. The fries were good but not great.
If you want a really good burger it's a great place to go--but make sure you have a LOT of time before you go. It took 45 minutes for my food to get to me, including waiting for 15 minutes before I could even place my order because I had to wait for a grand total of about 2 different orders before mine. This isn't a place you can run through on your lunch hour, your lunch break will be over with before you ever see your food. I was beginning to wonder if they had to kill the cow and pick the potatoes for my dinner after I ordered, it took so long.
The place is staffed by teenage girls who have no earthly idea what they're doing when it comes to the drive-thru. On my only other visit I ordered a milkshake. Shouldn't be something you can screw up right? Well, they managed to find a way to screw the order up...not once...not twice...but THREE TIMES. And there was nothing special-ordered about it. That was at the drive-thru. One thing about the time I got the burger and fries, the order was right even though I special-ordered it.
Bottom line: if you have a LOT of free time and want a great burger, it's a good choice, but whatever you do, don't go through the drive-thru, and don't go if you're remotely close to have to be in a hurry unless you just want a milkshake. But remember, avoid the drive-thru at all costs. If you're looking for someplace faster, try Cracker Barrel (that alone should tell you something).
- Pros: Great burgers and great milkshakes, fries are pretty good to
- Cons: Terrible service, drive-thru is pathetic, slower than snails
Best Ice Cream for Miles
by Josh01 at Citysearch
I've been going to the Velvet Cream - better known as 'The Dip' to the locals - for 22 years. Their ice cream is simply fantastic; it puts everything else in town, and even beyond, to shame.
But it's not just their ice cream that keeps me coming back. It's the unique taste of the hamburgers, the fries, everything that reminds me of my childhood. Velvet Cream's food is a throwback to the 1950s.
You're not going to go away hungry either. One order of fries will feed a person, but usually two will be required to finish it. Their smallest hamburger is a Quarter Pound. And the largest? Two Pounds!?! That's a challenge if I ever saw one.
Velvet Cream is one of those places that still has a southern charm and doesn't have the same attitude problem that many chain restaurants have. When their not too busy, they might just strike up a conversation with you. But alas, when the parking lot is full of other hungry people, they run around like bees inside.
In summary, this is a place that everyone needs to try at least once - but good luck with that. You'll find yourself coming back again and again!
- Pros: Outrageous amount of choices
BEST EVER!!!

I have been going there for a very long time. My grandmother use to take me for ice cream when I was little and staying with her during the summer. Now I take my own son for a "treat". I craved their spicy fries when I was pregnant because they are awesome!!! You can make a whole meal on just an order of fries. And their hamburgers are the best ever. I would rather eat here than any other fine dining resturant in town. The service is great also. Everyone has that "Southern personality". They are not a fast food place so they are not very fast but it is worth the little wait for the great food.
- Pros: Very tasty food & lots of variety
- Cons: Nowhere to sit down
The Dip is the BEST

The best burgers in town. If you're looking for something different from "chain" restaurants, velvet cream is the place to be. Lots of variety.
- Pros: Great food, Friendly Service, Great Variety
