Illinois-based drugstore chain serves neighborhoods with fully stocked stores and modern amenities.. In Short
Founded in 1901 in Chicago by Charles R. Walgreen Sr., this neighborhood pharmacy has grown to be one of the nation's largest drugstore chains. Each store carries 25,000 different items--from cleaning products to electronics and greeting cards. Store features include a computerized system connecting pharmacies nationwide via satellite, grocery-store food aisles, one-hour photofinishing and an automated phone system for prescription refills and pre-arranged pickup times. Other services include in-store flu shots and childhood immunizations.

Picture Mishap. I live in Brighton and work in Germantown at night. On my way to work, I wanted to leave pictures to pick up in the morning. A manager assured me that they would run them that night, so they would be ready in the morning (I paid for 1-hour finishing so I could do this). He understood that I would be on my way home before the photo lab officially opened, but promised it would be no trouble to just get the pictures and ring them up. The next morning, I stopped by for my pictures, but the lady at the front told me it was closed. I explained my situation. She called the manager on duty (a different one), and he said it was closed. I was furious. It would be a week before I would be back that way. I asked to speak to the manager who sauntered to the front conveniently not wearing his name badge. He did not say one word to me as I told my story yet again. All he had to do was walk 20 feet and pick up my package of finished pictures and hand them to me. He would not do it. At this time, it was 20 minutes until the photo lab "opened". I couldn't stay. After working all night, I still had to get my kids to school, and I was exhausted. I informed him I would never enter that Walgreens again and left without my hour photos.
