Worst Service I've ever experienced.
My friends and I went to Harry's Detour in Midtown Memphis Thursday evening of October 9th, 2008. I knew something was wrong when I saw that aside from one other couple, we were the only customers that night from 7:30-10pm. I think the reason this restaurant was a "ghost town" had to be because of lousy service.
Our server, who was also the manager, became irate and physically intimidating when two of our party left and did not tip sufficiently. He cursed at us several times and blamed us for their actions. His behavior was unprofessional, scary and rude.
After making a scene he stormed out of the room and said he'd be back in 10 minutes. Previous to this incident I witnessed him and the chef outside smoking, drinking and making "cat-calls" at people driving by. This is also unprofessional and distasteful.
The unfortunate behavior doesn't stop there. He also loomed over me while I was figuring out how much to tip--he obviously did this to make sure my tip suited him. This was a physically imposing and threatening behavior that frightened me. I was too afraid of him to make eye contact or even acknowledge his presence.
The icing on the cake had to be when he offered a member of our party a shot of whiskey (a beverage that is not served at this restaurant because it is not advertised on the menu) if she would "make-out" with him. Again, this is unprofessional and quite frankly disgusting!! He was at least twenty years her senior!
So, because of these reasons I am never going back to Harry's Detour in Midtown Memphis and I hope you avoid it as well.
User review by generals. The location was great and the food was above average. However, the service was pretty slow and I felt it was a bit over-priced.
