CLOSED....Memphis ran it into the ground.
Few patrons in Memphis appreciated the upscale, nouveau effort by a world reknown chef.....but WHAT ELSE IS NEW !
Memphis clearly could not support this sort of independent, clever, and upscale dining experiences !
Perhaps someone will turn the building into another cheapas BBQ joint ! That seems the only thing that works in Memphis very well and easily..Too bad...almost sad..
The world reknown chef is now employed working at the Brushmark ?? Whoa....that's a nasty experience too..
Over rated.
Where we live there are tons of restaurants that 'pop up' like this one. I found this one no different. They were a little too self-aggrandizing with no real, earned license to be so. In short, they were bogus, bogus food, bogus service, high prices.
I can't really recommend the place for the level of (low) quality we experienced, but perhaps Memphians may find it 'novel'. We found it insultingly poor.
Save yourself time, money and a bad meal. This silly, pretentious restaurant is way overrated - from its tough, chewy "butter poached" lobster to the sinewy, underdone and gritty ribeye steak, the food is a real miss and overpriced. Add to this the rude greeting by the owner (can't make eye contact for some reason) and the unceremoneous seating ("sit here") despite reservations ...add to that the dining experience reminicent of sitting in a military mess hall - well, hundreds of dollars later, no need to return to this amatuer establishment.
the previous poster is correct !. that's the problem !! memphis has only TWO sophisticated or relatively decent truly upscale restaurants, the place is innovative for sure, but the owners are wasting their talents on most memphians, they simply just don't get it..too bad though....try the place out
Wally Joe. This is one of only two sophisticated restaurants in Memphis, and it would be excellent in any major city in the country.
Don't confuse price with quality !.
Yes it's verry different "for Memphis", but we're not from Memphis !...we found the found imaginative and presented well...but being from Miami, we don't find any "status" in paying too much....it's a bit expensive given the quality.....but again, Memphis residents have had their tastbuds ruined by too much awful BBQ and cheap Mexican !!
The food is innovative however ! by comparison to other national restaurants, this one is probably about "average" in actual "taste' !
Trendy but interesting. Memphis folks are not sophisticated enough to perhaps like it, I found the food "attractive" but lacking in true taste. oooo's and ah-h-h-h's may be prevalent because Memphis has no competition in thoughtful upscale restaurants----no big deal here, but certainly outrageously priced
wally joe. wally joe is the best restaurant in memphis. the knock on them most often heard is that the food is very cutting edge and expensive. well, maybe for memphis, but it's no different from what the rest of the country is doing. in addition, there at least five restaurants in town more expensive. the quality, creativity, and presentation of the food is unsurpassed. service is gracious, and the ambience very cosmopolitan. it all adds up to the total package. it is the highest rated in town and also rates as one of the best in the country by the national media.
