Editorial Review for 24 Hour Fitness – by Saira Masood
In Short
With classes ranging from 24 Hour Tease, a sexy strip aerobic class, to the more subdued Vinyasa flow yoga and butt-kickin' boot camp, this active sports club is packed with health conscious (and some insomniac) gym goers. Stocked with the latest cardio and weight-training equipment, this gym cranks up the pumping music, flicks on the Plasma TV sets, and lets fitness fanatics work out according to their own schedule. With affordable rates and a friendly, knowledgeable staff, personal training is another tangible get-fit option. And while the moniker is somewhat misleading, on most days the door is open for at least nineteen hours--not too shabby.

I have been to tons of gyms in the Memphis area and so far, for the price, this one is the best. The only times they close are between 8 pm and 8 am on Saturday and Sunday nights, so the hours are very convenient. The classes are fun but get very crowded so you have to get there early. They recently re-did the lockers in both locker rooms but I feel like they could have re-done the showers which aren't the cleanest showers ever, or something else. To me the lockers would have been a last priority. They have about a million treadmills and ellipticals, but some of their best equipment like the TreadClimber, they only have two of (and one is constantly broken). All in all, this is a pretty good gym!
Pros: Good value, lots of machines, usually don't have to wait
Cons: Need more of the good machines! Staff could be friendlier

I've been a member since the mid 90's when it was Q The Sports Club. It used to be clean - there were people wiping and cleaning equipment almost daily before, which I haven't seen once since 24 Hour took over. The showers are pretty nasty and the locker room floors are always wet. If you want help or supervision on the workout floor, this is not the place for you. To their credit, they have been good about replacing aging machines, and there are lots of them, just not many of the most popular ones (read: long waits between sets even when it's not busy). And it's really not 24 hours...it closes at 11pm Fridays, and 8pm Sat/Sun. I've seen lots of people get there just before 8 on the weekends only to find out they have to leave 10-20 minutes into their workout. I kept going because of the location, but there are newer, more convenient options now.
Pros: Lots of machines and cardio equipment
Cons: Too few of the highest demand equipment
