Cold Beer and the Best "Spreads in Shelby county".
Shake Rag Tn was established in the 1850's near what is now the intersection's of Shelby Road and Rankin branch. The store was was dismanteled plank by plank and moved approximatley 2.5 miles durring the early 1900's as DuPont powder works bought the property. The store was Re-assembled at West Union Rd and Rankin branch. The population "44&1/2" did not appear untill 1969 while the "Mayor"
of Shake Rag , Martendale Abby was painting a new sign. My mother walked in to the store to announce to my father that she was expecting a child(me). At that time Mayor Abby wrote 1/2 on the sign, Thus creating the theory that "everytime a woman gets pregnant a man leaves town" The original country store burned in 1994 in a suspicisious fire thus loosing a century of photos and other countless momentos. The current store is located on the same location but is know known as a kareokee bar with much if all history lost.
