From velvet sofas to iron silverware, there's everything you need in modern, classy home decor..
The Scene
When you're in college, you shop for furniture at your parents' house. In your 20s, you go to thrift stores and splurge on Ikea. When you're in your 30s, with a little more in the bank, it's probably Pottery Barn, the home furnishings chain that has become as ubiquitous as Starbucks.
The Goods
One of Williams Sonoma's three retail branches, Pottery Barn started with dishware and crystal, and then expanded its inventory to include sterling silver trays, leather couches, rugs, pillows and bed frames. Everything is pretty cool, in a spare, semi-rustic way, and the chain's customer-service philosophy and on-site decorating advisors ensure a pleasant shopping experience. Pieces tend to be expensive but you can find great bargains in the clearance aisles.
