Editorial Review for Memphis Pink Palace Museum – by Linda Romine
Overview
Clarence Saunders, entrepreneur and founder of the first supermarket chain, Piggly Wiggly, originally built this Georgian pink-marble wonderland as his home. Today, it serves as a natural and cultural history museum. Exhibits include a hand-carved miniature circus, fossils, a replica of the first Piggly Wiggly and an extensive medical history display. There's even a shrunken head.
The Experience
The Union Planters IMAX Theater wraps visitors in the sights and sounds of faraway lands, the deep seas and the skies above with its four-story screen. The Sharpe Planetarium puts on celestial shows with rock-and-roll lasers and the stories behind the constellations found in springtime skies. Secrets of successful entrepreneurs are revealed in the Hall of Honor. Multimedia presentations showcase the triumphs of Federal Express, Piggly Wiggly and the Holiday Inn.
